After the success of the Biotechnica America and PharmaMedDevice at last year's Interphex USA, these two major events will once again run concurrently with the current edition of Interphex USA to make the venue a complete one-stop-shop for the entire pharmaceutical and biotech industries in the world.

The Biotechnica America, the US edition of Europe's biggest biotech event Biotechnica, and the PharmaMedDevice, an event which focuses on combination products, (pharma/medical devices) will be held at New York's Jacob K. Javits Convention Centre on the same dates of Interphex USA 2009.

The event Biotechnica America will showcase promising biotech applications in the health sector, food production, biochemical industry and environmental protection. The event is expected to gather world leaders in biotechnology industry.

The fast growing biotechnology market in US is currently valued at US $89 billion (according to Burril & Company study) and it attracts investments around US $23 billion in research and development every year. It is this opportunity that led the trade fair organiser of Biotechnica, the Germany-based Deutsche Messe and its US counterpart Reed Life Sciences, to establish the joint event as a major meeting-place for the life sciences industry on the North American Market.

In March 2008, the launch of Biotechnica America in Philadelphia attracted 1,003 exhibitors from 20 countries, including world market leaders such as Merck, Novartis, Pfizer and Sandoz. This joint show displayed a wide spectrum of leading-edge products and innovations, and was attended by some 13,000 professionals. Off these trade visitors, almost 33 per cent were primarily interested in biotechnology.

On the other hand, the PharmaMedDevice Symposium is the only comprehensive forum that showcases medical device innovation as it relates to the convergence of the pharmaceutical and biologic industries. The conference is designed to provide a dynamic platform for education, partnering and discovery of innovative, new technologies which offer cross-sector collaboration across the life science industries.

The three-day PharmaMedDevice Symposium is expected to cover topics, including the status of the medical technology industry, advances in biomedical engineering and the future, nanomedicine and drug delivery and independent testing and analysis of medical devices and materials.
